More fun from North Carolina

Really, North Carolina-- what's in the water down there? First it was the insane preacher that suggested punching your gay children, and now this, courtesy HuffPo:

The barrage of anti-gay sermons delivered by North Carolina-based pastors to hit the blogosphere continues with yet another disturbing rant caught on tape.

The pastor, identified on YouTube as Charles L. Worley of Providence Road Baptist Church in Maiden, N.C., condemns President Obama's much-publicized endorsement of same-sex marriage while calling for gays and lesbians to be put in an electrified pen and ultimately killed off.

"Build a great, big, large fence -- 150 or 100 mile long -- put all the lesbians in there," Worley suggests in the clip, reportedly filmed on May 13.

He continues: "Do the same thing for the queers and the homosexuals and have that fence electrified so they can't get out...and you know what, in a few years, they'll die out...do you know why? They can't reproduce!"

He also said that if he's asked who he'll vote for, he'll reply, "I'm not going to vote for a baby killer and a homosexual lover!" Many of the congregants cheer and reply, "Amen."

Watch the video for yourself...

My Mom has accused me in the past of "hating Christians" (and we've since had a conversation and cleared that up)… to be clear… I don't hate Christians at all (in fact, one of my close and most trusted friends is the full-time pastor of a growing Christian church). I just can't believe all the people who (a) interpret the bible to say that the Bible is against homosexuality (when I think that interpretation is incorrect), and/or (b) make all kinds of insane comments (like the guy in the video above) in the name of Jesus.

So… I guess my point is, if you're Christian and insane like the people above, you're giving all Christians a terrible name.

And if you're Christian and not insane and don't hate gay people (like my Mom! or my Christian friends!), please be understanding when a lot of the gay community isn't extremely patient or tolerant with the Christian community. I can't speak for all the gays but I can tell you, after years and years (and years and years) of hearing hate messages delivered by "good Christians" (like: the entire Catholic church, nearly every Baptist preacher, nearly every Christian church in conservative areas like the South, etc.), I'm sure you can understand how it might be a little difficult to get to the point that when gay folks hear "I'm a Christian" we don't run screaming.

Upset about Pastor Harris? Sign the petition!

Regarding my post from last week about the nutty anti-gay pastor who advocated STRIKING children, punching them and breaking their wrist-- here's a petition to sign.

"A North Carolina pastor has made national news with a sermon calling on parents to physically abuse gay children. Can you help show LGBT youth that Pastor Harris doesn't speak for faithful Christians by adding your name to a statement disavowing his hateful tirade?"

I've added my name.
